In the annual State of the Union Address, President Obama proposed measures to bring relief to almost 8 million students who will see their student loan interest rates double on new loans starting July 1st, 2012.
We just finished up the sustainable event of the semester (in my humble opinion) with the ConnPIRG zero waste tailgate at the Uconn vs. Louisville football game.

I haven’t been this excited in a long time! After days of practicing for (and tweeting about) my meeting with President Herbst, it finally happened.
Last night, the Undergraduate Student Government Senate passed legislation urging professors to adopt open source textbooks for their classroom.
We were in the Northwest Dining Hall today raising money for famine relief in Somalia through a text-to-give program that instantly sends $10 to Oxfam's relief program. We raised $800 which will provide instant relief to families in need in the middle of this crisis.
Over the past two weeks, you have probably seen ConnPIRG students in the union, in your dorms, dining halls, and on your way to class asking for your signature on a petition to make Uconn zero waste. 40 or 50 of my friends and I have been busy collecting over 3,500 petition signatures from Uconn students for this important initiative!
