Trinity College students were part of one of the largest youth voter turnouts in U.S. In the months leading up to last week's election, the New Voter's Project, a division of Connecticut Peer Interest Research Group (ConnPIRG), helped rally Trinity students and register them to vote.

The three panelists, David, Kate and Jeff, presented honest and real stories that touched the hearts and minds of many in the audiences. Their testimonies reminded listeners that homelessness has the potential to affect anyone.

The increasingly steep price of textbooks has university students digging deep into their wallets, but states across the U.S. are passing legislation in hopes of cutting costs. Connecticut was one of six states that has already signed legislation requiring publishers to inform faculty of the price and revisions of their textbooks, according to a ConnPIRG news release.

Bush Signs College Cost Reduction Act - UConn Daily Campus (new window)

President Bush signed the College Cost Reduction and Access Act into law Thursday, after Congress put up a nine-month battle to pass the legislation that will increase financial aid for college students. The law increases the maximum federal Pell Grant award from $4,050 to $5,400 over the next five years and more students will be eligible for the grant, according to U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney (D-2nd), who is a member of the Committee on Education and Labor.

Hunger 101 Highlights Local Issue - The Daily Campus (new window)

It is a common misconception that hunger is more of a global than a local issue, but roughly 100,000 people in Connecticut suffer from food insecurity. Of these 100,000 people, 40,000 are children. Tuesday night ConnPIRG (Public Interest Research Group) held a Hunger 101 workshop in the Student Union to raise hunger awareness.
